Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program

Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital’s spinal cord injury rehabilitation program is designed to help with adjustment to life after a spinal cord injury. Our comprehensive, interdisciplinary patient assessments and treatments are focused on each patient’s unique needs and rehabilitation goals.

During spinal cord injury rehab, the Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital team will:

Help assess the injury in a safe environment.

We offer 24-hour nursing and daily physician management. Board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, also known as physiatrists, lead our hospital’s care team. Our team of medical professionals is skilled in assessing the level and severity of spinal cord injuries. We can help address existing impairments, provide medication management, pain management, and monitor for any new complications.

Provide personalized rehabilitation services.

No two spinal cord injuries or individuals are alike. For this reason, we develop custom rehabilitation plans based on each individual’s specific needs and goals. Our therapists help patients with transfers, mobility, gait, strength, and practicing self-care activities. We can also assist patients with finding the right wheelchair and other adaptive equipment.

Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital offers a spacious therapy gym, state-of-the-art equipment, and functional living areas. Functional living areas are spaces specially designed to simulate a home environment. Here patients can safely practice newly learned therapy techniques before leaving the hospital.

Prepare patients and their families for the transition to home.

We’re here to help our patients and their families through the physical, emotional, and social changes they may experience as a result of a spinal cord injury. Our team members can provide family education and help make connections to community resources such as spinal cord injury support groups. Our social work and case management employees work closely with patients and their family members to make sure they have adequate resources and support before leaving Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital.

Our services are provided by a team of skilled, compassionate medical professionals. Learn more about our interdisciplinary team approach.
