For an individual who has suffered a brain injury, rehabilitation is a critical step in recovery.
Brain injury rehabilitation addresses the specific abilities that have been impacted by the injury. Brain injuries can affect mobility, strength, self-care abilities, communication, and cognition. No two patients will have the same needs, challenges, and rehabilitation goals.
At Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital, we offer comprehensive assessments, patient-centered care, and a team approach to treatment. Our approach allows us to get to know our patients and address their unique needs.
During a stay at Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital, our team will:
Create a safe environment for recovery.
We provide 24-hour nursing care and daily physician management. Board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, also known as physiatrists, lead our hospital’s care team. Our skilled medical professionals are trained to treat existing impairments, provide medication and pain management, and monitor for any new complications from brain injuries.
Address issues with communication and cognition.
Our speech-language pathologists are skilled in working with patients who have suffered brain injuries. They are available to help assess and work with patients who have had changes in their nutrition needs, swallowing, communication, or cognitive abilities. Our consulting psychiatrists/psychologists may also work with individuals who have experienced cognitive or behavioral changes.
Help each patient to exceed their rehabilitation goals.
Our team of rehabilitation experts will develop a therapy program that is specific to each individual’s goals and abilities. Our physical therapy team works with patients to improve mobility and strength. At the same time, occupational therapists can provide support with self-care activities and the use of assistive devices.
Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital offers a spacious therapy gym, state-of-the-art equipment, and functional living areas. Functional areas are spaces specially designed to simulate a home environment. Here patients can safely practice newly learned therapy techniques before being discharged.
Provide direction and support for patients and their family members.
We provide education and training on risk factors, lifestyle changes, safety, and medications for both patients and their family members. Our team members can also help make connections to community resources and brain injury support groups. Our social work and case management employees work hard to make sure each patient and their family members have the support they need.
Our services are provided by a team of skilled, compassionate medical professionals. Learn more about our interdisciplinary team approach.
